RESTARTING SERVER ON CHANGE (TAKE 2)

The PiedPiper was a good idea, but trying to have it daemonize and live in the background
was more difficult than expected.

So for now, make it like Catalyst/Plack. Have it live in the foreground, and restart
(hup) server when files changed.


RELOADING MODULES ON CHANGE

Would like to solve this by building on Perrin's MaxRequestsPerChild=1 idea.

* Server::Control::Plugin::PiedPiper
  * After successful_start, record $ppid, call start_watcher
  * Attributes:
    - notify (a File::ChangeNotify object or params hash)
    - parent_check_interval
  * Watcher forks immediately, returns pid
  * Watcher sets alarm to call check_for_parent() once every parent_check_interval secs.
  * Blocks on ChangeNotify. Whenever an event is received, call check_for_parent(), then kill children of ppid.
  * check_for_parent() uses Proc::ProcessTable to see if parent is alive and is the same process, exits otherwise

Could Server::Control::Plugin::PiedPiper::Watcher be a Server::Control subclass?
It just needs a do_start, which forks the child, creates the pid file on start, removes
the pid file on exit. There is probably something that does this already on CPAN.
Then we have to change S::C so that port can be undef without harm.

The advantage is that we can then call regular ->start and ->stop and have S::C handle
the pid file parsing.

PARSING APACHE CONF FILE

Parse Apache config to find the following:

ServerRoot - required
Listen - defaults to localhost:80
PidFile - defaults to ServerRoot/logs/httpd.pid
ErrorLog - defaults to logs/error_log (Unix) logs/error.log (Windows and OS/2)

If we can do this, is there any reason for the user to specify the root_dir and have us determine conf_file via that? Doesn't seem to be.

Have to be prepared that we won't be able to get some things from Apache config, in which case we'll have to default them.

HOW TO WRAP HTTP::Server::Simple

* HTTP::Server::Simple has no constructor arguments other than port. Everything is in the class. So there's not much reason to pass in an object, as opposed to a class name.
* Take server_class and net_server_params
* For port, pid_file, and error_log/log_file: use what is passed in or is provided in net_server_params
* Call server_class->new using our port()
  * Pass net_server_params along with port, pid_file, and error_log to run()

HOW TO WRAP Net::Server

  * Take net_server_class and net_server_params
  * For port, pid_file, and error_log/log_file: use what is passed in or is provided in net_server_params
  * Pass net_server_params along with port and pid_file to run()

* HTTP::Server::Simple has a net_server method that can be overriden in the subclass. It must point to a Net::Server subclass. However, we can do like HTTP::Engine::Interface::ServerSimple and create an anonymous
* Can pass Net::Server arguments to HTTP::Server::Simple::run().

* Net::Server does not have obvious accessors for its properties (port, etc.) - you have to use get_property.
* For our purposes, Net::Server gets its arguments either from the prebuilt object, or when passed to the run method.
* So...the simplest case is for us to accept net_server (a class) and net_server_configure. Take a look at how HTTP::Engine::Interface::ServerSimple does it - it creates an anonymous subclass of HTTP::Server::Simple which overrides net_server.
